Goedemorgen!

My flight into Brussels went without a hitch (other than an exceptionally cold cabin). Once we got the rental car (a Puegeot SUV) we had some issues tricking the GPS into speaking English instead of French, but once that was resolved, we got clear of the airport. Ironically, I live across the street from Reagan airport, and I've lived in DC for three years, but it's not until I arrive in Europe that I catch my first glimpse of Air Force One (or one of it's clones). The consensus was that it wasn't the President, but perhaps Hillary or Gates visiting NATO?

After that excitement, it was about a half hour drive to the little town of Aarschot, outside of Leuven, where our hotel is. The 'S Hertgenmollens (the Duke's Mills) hotel is in a 500+ year old building straddling the Demer river that's been completely rebuilt in the last year. While the exterior is all original, the inside looks straight out of an IKEA ad, very minimalist, with lots of bare wood and chrome, and very, very nice.

I carried a laptop with me, but unfortunately, they aren't done setting it up yet and I'm writing this post on my tablet, which isn't doing everything I'd like it to (inter-app copy/paste? a 'delete' button?) so this might be my last post until they get that figured out

Welcome!

Hello, World! (if I can be optimistic, more likely it's 'hello, mom'),

So I've gotten a new job, right? I'm travelling to Europe, I'm working (with others) on an Android app that will be useful and sharable and it seems to me that if there was ever a time to start a blog, this would be it.
That being said, this blog will have a pretty wide breadth, so I'll do my best to tag each post appropriately so that you can see the parts that are interesting to you, but not the rest of it. Mind you, this is my first post, so how exactly that's accomplished is a work in progress. Keep your eye on the sidebar for hints.
